SMS Sender Registry in Spain

Written by Alba B
Updated yesterday

The National Commission for Markets and Competition (CNMC) has launched the Sender Alias Registry, an official registry where all alphanumeric business names used to send SMS, MMS, or RCS messages to Spanish phone numbers must be registered.

The goal of this registry is to combat SMS fraud—known as smishing—by verifying that behind every alias ("BBVA", "POST", "MYBRAND", etc.) there is a real company, identified and held responsible for the content being sent.

Key Date: Starting June 7, 2026, Spanish mobile operators (Movistar, Vodafone, Orange, MásMóvil, Yoigo, etc.) will begin to automatically block any message whose alphanumeric sender is not listed in the Registry.

To meet these deadlines, registration must be completed before April 24.

Where to Provide This Information

You can complete the process via:

What Information You Need

To register a sender, it is vital that the data is completed accurately to prove ownership of the alias. The CNMC requires that the alias be legitimately linked to its owner—for example, through a trademark, trade name, corporate name, domain, or other valid identification.

In our form, we will ask for:

  1. Brand details.

  2. Brand owner details (the company or person legally responsible for the alias).

  3. Legal representative details: Highly important, as the CNMC will notify this email address during the verification process.

  4. Third-party details (optional): In the case of intermediary agencies, parent companies, or technical partners.

Important

It is essential that the information is correct and matches the legal and commercial reality of the alias owner. An alias may be rejected if it fails to prove a legitimate link or if it could lead to confusion, fraud, or misuse.

Furthermore, the owner must declare that the alias is regularly and legitimately related to their activity, and the CNMC reserves the right to verify this connection.

Supporting Documentation

In some cases, it may be necessary to prove ownership of the alias through documentation associated with the trademark, corporate name, or domain. Therefore, we recommend reviewing all data carefully before saving the form.
